It’s my husband’s birthday today so I’ve got cake on the brain! And I’m always up for a good talk about dessert. So today we’re going to discuss inspiration for your rustic farm wedding desserts. You can stick to the traditional wedding cake for sure, but there’s lots of opportunity to add a small touch to give a nod to your farm wedding or, even go beyond cake! Here’s some ideas for you to chew on 😉
For our own wedding, my husband loves pies! Cake is good, but it just so happened that our farm wedding venue is known for their charcoal oven baked pies so who were we to argue with that! Peach, cherry, apple and blueberry pies graced our dessert table. We selected a cherry pie for our “cake cutting” which sat atop a vintage cake stand with little “mr. + mrs.” toppers. It was perfect for the laid back feel of our wedding and on the cool fall night it took place on, guests loved a warm dessert topped with creamy vanilla ice cream. But, we didn’t want to stop there. One of the best parts of a farm wedding is the opportunity to really use your space in unique ways and get creative in all elements. So what better way to end the night, we thought, than some fireside s’mores for our guests! We announced our special surprise after the pie cutting and guests had a great time standing outside by the fire, roasting their marhsmallows and enjoying warm sticky s’mores. The dessert possibilities are endless for your farm wedding, where you have the space to set up gorgeous vintage or rustic vignettes to host your desserts, so here are a few wonderful dessert ideas I love that can add to the traditional wedding cake or move to an even more unique dessert element:
If you prefer a traditional wedding cake, consider adding some natural elements to help tie it to your farm wedding. Display the cake on a short wood stump or wine barrel. Add in fresh flowers or vines. Using fresh, natural elements, you can elevate your wedding cake to a beautiful rustic chic wedding cake:
If you want to go the pie route, find a beautiful vintage table or hutch to use for display or perhaps you want to use wooden crates or vintage glass stands to help tie your dessert to your farm wedding setting:
You know I’m a big advocate for s’mores and there’s some great ideas to provide individual s’mores kits to each guest or have a nice bonfire set up outside and let guests have at it:

Maybe you don’t want to decide on just one dessert! And it’s your wedding so you don’t have to 🙂 Plan for a dessert table with a mix of cookies, small cakes and bars, mini pies, cake pops etc:
And lat but certainly not least, who doesn’t love cupcakes? They’re cute as can be and you sure can have fun with your display:
